When our yesterday is completely different from our tomorrow, when what is constant is change, and when there is a sense that everything we knew until now doesn't really prepare us for what is about to happen.
We know that our world is changing at an increasingly rapid pace, with reports of trends and predictions coming out more frequently and growing. And here is the new report from McKinsey, State of the Organization 2023, which was released last week and surveyed the 10 major changes organizations are undergoing today.
The first shift according to McKinsey is "increasing speed, strengthening resilience." The pace of change is not slowing down, on the contrary, and the real challenge for organizations today is to enhance their resilience, their ability to withstand what is happening.
In order to strengthen resilience, here's what should be in the toolbox:
Flexibility and adaptability - not clinging to how things were in the past, but looking ahead and moving quickly with the change.
Effective communication skills - not getting lost in translation, speak up and communicate the change, the challenges, and the benefits it holds.
Understanding the basics - things may change, but there are fundamental principles that always exist. Understand the needs and motivations that will always be there.
Strategic thinking - always remember that every action should derive from a well-thought-out strategy. Don't act impulsively, but consider the goal that the actions serve.
Essentially, it requires a combination of knowledge and experience, with a great deal of intelligence and always a strategy. When change is rapid, there is no need to round the corners, just change the process.
